Wooden furniture

Your customizable furniture is made of solid hardwood, oak or beech, and upon your choice is either delivered raw or with oil finish.

The First Step in Wood Care

CONSIDER THE NATURAL CHARACTERISTICS OF SOLID WOOD.

Although wood is naturally beautiful, strong, and durable, it has certain other characteristics too. Each board is unique. We do our best to choose the wood boards that have harmony in color and pattern, but it is natural for wood to have knots, mineral deposits, tiny holes, and unusual grain patterns.
Each piece is as individual as a fingerprint and will take stain slightly different—even two boards from the same tree. This is an inherent quality of wood and is not a defect unless it interferes with the function of a product.

Wood Furniture General Care Tips

  • Avoid placing your furniture in highly humid or dry areas, such as directly next to air vents.
  • Direct sunlight may darken wood furniture.
  • Use coasters and tablecloths or placemats when dining to avoid scratches and dings and water rings.
  • Place trivets under all serving dishes, especially beneath hot plates to keep heat from damaging the finish.
  • Wipe up spills immediately. Tough, sticky spots may require a small bit of hand dish soap but be sure to rinse clean with a damp cloth and dry any excessive moisture.
  • Clean your wood furniture with a lint free, lightly water-dampened cloth.
  • Dust with a soft, dry cloth. Even dust particles can be abrasive, so always dust with the grain and not against it.
  • Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasives on any finish.
  • Store table leaves properly. They should be placed flat. They can warp if placed on their sides.
  • We strongly discourage standing on or tilting back in chairs while seated; it is dangerous & will loosen the joints. (Decorative wood spindles are fragile and will break when subject to undue stress).

Cleaning & Maintenance of oiled furniture

Rubio Monocoat [1] offers a wide range of cleaning and maintenance material for your hardwood furniture to keep its oiled surfaces in top condition[2].

Regular Cleaning

We recommend “Rubio Monocoat Surface Care” for regular cleaning of your customized oil finished furniture. It is the handy, ready-to-use spray version of Rubio Monocoat Universal Soap. Both products are used to remove all dirt and grease thoroughly, without affecting the mat, natural look of the wood.

Stain removal

Your Tonorex Design hardwood furniture has an excellent oil finish that protects it from water, heat, and the daily wear & tear. It resists stains with normal use and care, but if accidents happen, Rubio Monocoat has stain removers that can solve the problem.

  • “Rubio Monocoat Limespot Remover”

Removes Lime stains and other alkaline stains, for example fertilizers, radiator water, etc., it can also be used for white rings.

  • “Rubio Monocoat Grease Remover”

A ready-to-use product that removes recent grease stains from for example olive oil, frying oil, crisps, oil, etc.
It should be applied immediately after the stain occurs thereby preventing the grease from penetrating the surface.

  • “Rubio Monocoat Tannin Remover”

This is a ready-to-use product for removing stains and spots on wood caused by a reaction to acid and water. These spots tend to occur after coming into contact with moisture and metal. It removes Black/tannin stains for example rings/stains from cans, flowerpots, etc.

Maintenance

Regular use of light maintenance oils helps maintain the silky matt finish of your oiled hardwood furniture.

  • “Rubio Monocoat Universal Maintenance Oil” pure color is a maintenance product to refresh wood oil finish. It will nourish the wood, give it a fuller look (satin sheen) and increase the fluid resistance.
Note: Maintenance with the Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C in its original colour should be done when the treated surface starts to show too much wear and tear or if the colour needs to be repaired.
  • “Rubio Monocoat Refresh Eco”is a ready-to-use sprayable product that refreshes and restores all wooden surfaces that have been treated with oil. It can be applied several times a year at certain areas.
Note: This product is not pigmented. To restore the colour, use Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C in the colour with which the surface area was treated.

STONE

The First Step in Stone Care

UNDERSTANDING THE CHARACTERISTICS OF NATURAL STONES.

POROSITY

While there are many variables between different stones, there are some common characteristics. The most important common fact is that ALL stone is porous. Sedimentary is more porous than metamorphic, which, in turn is more porous than igneous; but all are porous to some degree.

Color Variation

The very essence of natural stone offers a realistic feeling and proximity to nature. Each stone-top is unique. The variation of grain structure and veining formations differ from stone to stone. Granites mostly show very little colour-variation but may vary in pattern and grain density. On the other hand, marble shows wide variations in colour and veining formations. Likewise, travertine is consistent in colour with hints of graining individuality.

One must embrace and understand the concept of variation, since no two pieces are exactly alike.

Impregnation and sealing before use

Marble, Travertine, Granite, Limestone, etc. are very delicate and must be used with care. Acids, even the mild acid in wine, tomato juice, vinegar, etc. will dissolve the finish and permanently etch the surface. Some stones are very porous and therefore, may absorb liquid spills.

Therefore, we recommend impregnation of your stone tabletop before you start using it. Akemi Stain Repellent Nano-Effect[1] is an outstanding special impregnation which repels water, grease, and oil. Make sure to clean the stone using Akemi cleaner before sealing it with Nano-effect impregnation. Follow instructions by Akemi for best results.

Tips for Natural Stone normal cleaning

  • Clean stone surfaces with a few drops of mild non-acidic soap, preferable stone soap.
  • Frequent or over-use of soap scum remover could result in dulling the surface of the stone.
  • Do thoroughly rinse and dry the surface after washing.
  • Too much cleaner or soap may leave a film and cause streaks.
  • Do not use products that contain lemon, vinegar or other acid content may etch the surface.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaner such as dry cleaners or soft cleansers.
  • Do not use acidic cleaners such as bathroom cleaners, grout cleaners, or tile cleaners.
  • Do not mix bleach and ammonia, this combination creates a toxic gas. spills and stains
  • Blot the spill with a paper towel immediately. Don’t wipe the area, this will spread the spill. Flush the area with plain water and mild soap and rinse several times. Dry the area thoroughly with a soft cloth. Repeat as necessary.

RUGS

Invest In Rug Pads & Rotate Rugs Often

We recommend getting a rug pad for every area rug, from the small to extra-large, including those with latex backing.

  • They prevent rugs from slipping.
  • They extend the life and appearance of rugs.
  • They help protect floors Traffic patterns may cause a wear out pattern if your rugs are never rotated. By rotating them you will prevent this from happening, thereby extending the longevity of the rug.

Clean Your Rugs

Periodic professional cleaning will keep area rugs looking great and extend their longevity. To spot clean or blot spills use a clean white cloth.

WOOL RUGS

  • Vacuum regularly, avoid using the beater bar (use “floor” setting)
  • Spot clean with a solution of water and mild soap, gently blotting spills, or stains
  • Use scissors to trim yarn evenly with rug surface

POLYESTER RUGS

  • Vacuum regularly, avoid using the beater bar (use “floor” setting)
  • Spot clean with a solution of water and mild soap, gently blotting spills, or stains
  • Rinse rug with a hose and hang until thoroughly dry.
  • Do not use harsh chemicals.

Dust removal

The ideal vacuum cleaner for regular cleaning of area rugs should have reduced suction power: no more than 1000 Watts. Do not use the rotating brushes or beater bar, which could damage and weaken the fibres.

How to treat stains

In case of stains, clean with mild soap or dry shampoo. Coloured stains and grease must be treated immediately with detergent. Flush acidic liquids with water. Avoid the use of carpet cleaning machines which could damage the appearance of the rug. A still-damp stain is an easier stain to remove because the substance has not yet penetrated deeply into the fibres of the fabric. First remove any solids from the stain by gently scraping with a spoon or knife, then use a cotton cloth or absorbent paper to absorb the liquid as quickly as possible.
Remove the stain by gently wiping from the outer edge of the stain toward the centre; do not use a circular motion, which could cause the stain to spread. Also clean the stained area from the reverse side of the rug. In case of tough stains, it is always best to contact a specialized rug cleaning service.

Care instructions

To avoid discoloration or fading, do not expose the rug to direct sunlight. Do not store in a hermetically sealed container as the constant level of humidity is damaging to the rug.
The use of a non-slip rug underlay not only ensures safety but also protects the rug and extends its lifetime.
For overall cleaning, it is best to use a specialized rug cleaning service. Specifically for rugs made of Lyocell and linen, we recommend professional cleaning with dry foam, without water. For wool rugs, use professional soft drycleaning (drycleaning with perchloroethylene) or water wash at a temperature no higher than 30°C (86°F).
